Volume 1.

 

ENGLAND   2.10.'18   7p.m.   18TH BATT. paraded 8.30 a.m. & entrained at WOOL for SOUTHAMPTON 10 a.m. The battalion embarked for FRANCE 4.30 p.m. 2.10.'18, with full complement of OFFICERS, O.R. & TRANSPORT, excepting rear guard of 1 off. 12 O.R. & commanding Officer LIEUT. COL. H.E. NORTON.

LE HAVRE   3.10.'18   7p.m.        Battalion landed at LE HAVRE & proceeded to REST CAMP. An advance party of 1 officer 20 O.R. left the same evening for MIRLEMONT.

         Do        4.10.'18   7p.m.   Battalion remained at REST CAMP Transport proceeded by road to MIRLEMONT.

         Do          5.10.'18   7p.m.   Battalion remained at REST CAMP. Advanced party arrived at MIRLEMONT. Transport arrived at MIRLEMONT.

MIRLEMONT   6.10.'1   7p.m.   Battalion entrained for MIRLEMONT TRAINING AREA. Commanding officer LIEUT. COL. H.E. NORTON arrived from ENGLAND

     Do        7.10.'18        7p.m.        Battalion arrived at TRAINING CAMP & went under canvas. WEATHER windy but fine. Camp rather unsuitable for winter quarters. 4 OFF. 1 O.R. proceeded to LE TREPORT on instruction course. 1 O.R. admitted to hospital.

MIRLEMONT   8.10.'18   7p.m.   Improvements to camp effected. 1 O.R. (attached) admitted to hospital. Weather fine but windy, rain on night 7.10.'18 - 8.10.'18

MIRLEMONT   9.10.'18   7p.m. BDE. TANK CORPS for front line tour. 2 O.R. admitted to hospital. Weather slightly showery. 12 Mk V. STAR tanks taken over for instruction purposes. General training commenced.        12 OFF. 23 O.R. proceeded to 1ST

                        10.10.'18   7p.m.   Battalion training. Weather showery.

                        11.10.'18   7p.m.    Battalion training. Weather showery. 1 O.R. admitted to hospital.

                        12.10.'18   7p.m.    Special classes of instruction commenced. 1 O.R. admitted to hospital.                                                  Weather very wet. "LT. P.H. FLANAGAN granted leave to U.K.                                                           12.10.18. 1 O.R. attached to 6th B'DE TANKS.

                        13.10.'18   7p.m.   Church parade & C.O.'s inspection. Weather very wet.

                        14.10.'18   7p.m    B'DE TANK CORPS TOUR. Training continued. Weather fine..        12 OFF. 23 O.R. returned from 1ST

                        15.10.'18   7p.m.   Training continued. BATTALION inspected by MAJ. GEN. H.J. ELLES C.B., D.S.O. G.O.C. TANK CORPS. Weather showery. CAPT. FERNS proceeded on special leave to U.K.
